Jan 26 “Green Scene” with the Play-Ground Theatre
Introducing the world’s first organic superhero – Super Natural. Born on Earth Day … raised on peace, love and granola … Super Natural is here to save the planet from the evil plans of “Toxic Waste.” See also “Trash to Treasure,” a hilarious pirate adventure. Then, share your knowledge of recycling, nutrition, and sustain-able living in “The Green Game Show.” Often described as the “Saturday Night Live for kids,” Mia Sole and Jeff Haycock are the side-splitting duo of the 21 year old Play-Ground Theatre present-ing all original musicals for kids. Fashioned after the British panto-mime comedy style, skits are overflowing with tongue in cheek word plays, sing alongs, stage interactions, laugh out loud antics, and fast paced variety. 4:00 p.m. $10 adults, $5 children. After twelve albums, three gold records, one platinum, six hit singles, Academy of Country Mu-sic’s Best New Female Vocalist, and Country Music Association’s Best Album, she’s still luring fans in. 7:30 p.m. $35. Gallery Showings
Jan 18 – 31 Dawn Cohen: “Scenes from Beautiful Crested Butte”
Dawn Cohen believes in the power of obser-vation in art and has devoted her time as an artist to only making paintings on site in plein-air. Dawn was in-troduced to the concept of plein-air painting by her husband, Shaun Horne. Dawn states “When painting outside I am receiving information from all the senses, not just the eyes. It allows for me to feel and experience the landscape, and to per-ceive the heaviness or lightness of the atmosphere. When you look at my plein-air landscape, I am hoping to share my ex-perience of time and place.” This gallery show will showcase many of her spectacular plein-air paintings of Crested Butte representing all four seasons and will demonstrate why she believes “the beauty of nature is an inexhaustible subject mat-ter.” Reception: Wednesday, January 23, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Free. Piper Gallery of the Center for the Arts, 606 6th Street, Crested Butte. (970) 349-7487. www.crestedbuttearts.org.

Stupendous and Small Art
We like to call it “Gifts You Ain’t Already Got, on a Budget Your Mamma Would Approve.” Our artists create pieces for you that are … made locally, have no calories, don’t cause hangovers, are treasures that your special someone doesn’t already have, are items that everyone has room for in their home, you can pack into your suitcase, are timeless, are origi-nal, and are handmade by Crested Butte local artists. December features Ivy Walker, Suzanne Pierson, Laura Cooper Elm and Carol Connor. The Art Studio is open Tuesdays 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., Wednesdays 1 – 5 p.m., Thursdays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., and Fridays 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Art Studio of the Center for the Arts. 111 Elk Avenue, Crested Butte. 10 – 12 Ripple: A Women’s Restorative Art Retreat
Instructors and artists Melissa Mason and Ivy Walker lead this women’s retreat through the theme of “Following the Inner Impulse: Creative Play and Art in the Landscape.” Between careers, children, and house-holds, many women find it difficult to set aside time to tap into the creative energy that defines them. Participation in a restorative retreat steeped in the visual arts with Ripple allows for that time and space to connect with one’s inner visions and express them in a supportive environment. Designed to awaken and foster women’s innate creative energy, our methods help women make a connection to the self, engage in a restorative experience, and create a positive shift in personal creative growth. 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. $450 (includes materials, catered snacks and beverages). Art Studio of the Center for the Arts. 111 Elk Avenue, Crested Butte. (970) 349-7044. www.crestedbuttearts.org/artstudio.
