February 19 The Duhks
One of the most musically adventurous groups to detonate from the roots scene in the past decade, this Canadian acoustic band romps through soul, gospel, North American folk, Brazilian samba, old-time country, string-band, zydeco, jazz, Irish dance, and even punk, all energetically delivered with wild-eyed invention and spine-rattling groove. Hailed by The New York Times as artists at the fore-front of the neo-folk movement, The Duhks blend these seemingly disparate genres into an irresistible ethnic stew that is simultane-ously hauntingly traditional and innovatively modern. Having won the Juno Award for Best Roots & Traditional Album and a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album, The Duhks have earned admirers as diverse as David Crosby, Dolly Parton and Doc Watson. Two of their five albums were produced by the likes of Bela Fleck and Tim O’Brien. The Duhks are Sarah Dugas (vocals), Christian Dugas (percussion), Jordan McConnell (guitar), Leonard Podolak (banjo) and Duncan Wickel (violin). 8 p.m. $20. At the Center at 606 Sixth Street.
